• Frequently Asked Questions

What are the hours of operation?

The Boston Rescue Mission is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year offering residential, shelter and meal programs.

How is the Boston Rescue Mission different from other organizations that provide similar services?

More than just an overnight shelter or a soup kitchen, the Mission offers a unique community of caring and accountability so that each and every individual we serve may someday achieve some level of self-sufficiency where they are holding a job, have their own place to live and will become productive, contributing members of society.

How long has the Mission been in operation?

Since 1899, we have been one of the oldest continuous service providers in Boston.

Who may receive services from the Mission?

We offer services to those who find themselves homeless.

How can I be assured that my donation will be spent wisely?

Our annual budget is approved by our Board of Directors and we are audited annually by the Massachusetts accounting firm of Kevin P. Martin & Associates, P.C.

What are the primary sources of your support?

Our largest contributors are individual donors. We also receive support from many area churches, corporations, and foundation grants. In addition, we receive some public funds for specific programs.

Does the Mission actively seek volunteer support?

Yes, the Mission is very reliant on its volunteers to sustain the level of care given to our clients. Last year over 2,000 people volunteered at the Boston Rescue Mission. We have opportunities for individuals and groups, one-time volunteers and those who would like a permanent shift. Please contact Mauricia at 617-338-9000, ext. 1230 or email volunteer@brm.org for more information.

Are you affiliated with any particular church or denomination?

No. The Boston Rescue Mission is not affiliated with any church or denomination. However, we did receive some form of support from over a hundred different area churches in the last year.
